Guy Fawkes mask with fake flower lei in Silver Volkswagen Beetle parked on 41 st near MLK Jr. Way.
Don't know why this disturbed me so much. The mask is hung from the headrest of the front seat, facing backwards as you can see. Almost like a remnant of the last evening's night on the town, as a scarf or sweater might be draped and forgotten until the party-goer enters the vehicle for her next errand or jaunt to the city. Revolution seems to be now relegated to a past-time or hobby, embodied in an accessory easily taken on and off at will and when the fancy strikes. Left me feeling like the last vestige of the rebel has been appropriated, mass marketed and embraced by consumers everywhere to the dilution of spirit.
